The LIN-Standard

New Features with LIN 2.1

Effective Immediately! Vector's LIN software components support the latest LIN 2.1 standard
It pays for the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) developer to utilize the new software components by taking advantage of the numerous improvements and extensions that come with the latest LIN specification. Gain instantaneous improvement of the interoperability between all nodes within a LIN Cluster.

Not only does LIN 2.1 provide an improved system description, it includes much more!

Better Dynamic Configuration of LIN Slaves
With the introduction of the new LIN 2.1 "Assign frame ID range" service, up to four protected identifiers (PIDs) can now be assigned to a LIN Slave using a single configuration command. This leads to a dramatic reduction in configuration time, which essentially enhances the response time during the system start-up process. LIN Slaves having non-volatile memory now can save this PID, which is assigned by the LIN Master, using the new "Save Configuration" service.

LIN Slave Diagnostics Divided into Three Classes (I, II, III)
Now, diagnostic classes explicitly define the features of the supported diagnostic services. In order to support segmented diagnostic requests and responses, LIN Slaves with diagnostic classes II and III now provide a LIN transport protocol.

Updated LIN Application Programming Interface (API)
Besides several smaller improvements in the LIN API, the application now has access to the current communication status (Sleep / Awake) of the LIN cluster, which dramatically simplifies the integration of the LIN transceiver.

Support for Legacy Slave Devices
It is possible to use LIN 2.1-based control units together with previous versions. LIN 1.3 / 2.0 Slaves communicate seamlessly with a LIN 2.1 Master. If dynamic configuration is not required, a LIN 2.1 Slave can interact with a LIN 2.0 Master.

LIN Transport Protocol
LIN 2.1 now supports the transmission of functional requests such as "Tester Present". Functional requests received by the LIN Master on the backbone bus are forwarded to the LIN cluster and its respective LIN Slaves. Note: live physical diagnostic connections between master and slave are not affected by this service.

Updated LIN Description and Node Configuration File Formats (LDF / NCF)
In order to support the new functions, the LDF and NCF exchange formats needed to be revised by the LIN consortium. The latest version of Vector's software configuration tool (GENy) already supports these newer formats.

Additional Vector Solutions for LIN
Together with the software components, Vector also supports the new LIN2.1 standard with their development tools (CANoe, CANalyzer, CANape).

Summary
The new LIN 2.1 standard introduces many improvements and functional enhancements, which are leading to a rapid introduction into vehicle development. With Vector being the first to offer production-ready LIN 2.1 software components and development tools, you get the support you need!
