Measurement, benchmarking and data analytics and are essential for both business and engineering. The current digital transformation increases the amount of data that becomes available. The value of a company is increasingly defined by its data. Value creation can only be exploited fully if these are used efficiently along the entire value chain. This tutorial will provide an overview on three topics: Measurement, Benchmarking, Data Analytics. All three topics are quantitative in nature and thus demand some understanding of underlying methods and techniques. Different perspectives demand appropriate depth. Insufficient measurement makes projects fail because business objectives will not be reached and effort will be wasted. Legal obligation such as product liability and many contractual requirements worldwide demand quantitative risk management and traceable measurements. Vector will provide guidance alomng software an dIT measurement and benchmarking.

Best Paper Award International Cost Estimation and Analysis Association (ICEAA) Conference 2016
Estimation matters. Many projects and smart business ideas fail for lack of delivering on time and budget. A common need in every field is thus to forecast and estimate. Estimation is an engineering discipline based on experience, data, transparent methods and common-sense. COSMIC, the Common Software Measurement International Consortium was created by an international group to develop a standard, ‘open’ measurement system and project estimation methods applicable to all types of software used in business and the real-time world. Estimation and measurement methods are rarely used properly in industry and the public sector, contributing to the high level of project failures and over-runs To improve both your project performance and productivity, we recommend starting right away with introducing or improving the estimation process with a closed loop of estimation, planning, measuring, and periodically improving your estimates. Read this award-winning paper and learn about best measurement and estimation practices.

Measuring and calibrating of AUTOSAR applications with XCP and CANape: The AUTOSAR Standard describes methods that enable standardized development of reusable and replaceable software components within vehicles. This approach minimizes the development effort for electronic control unit (ECU) software. The software is then optimized using CANape. Since the software developer cannot yet optimize the parameters for a control algorithm of the ECU at the time of implementation, these parameters are defined in the software as calibration parameters. The calibration parameters are ultimately variables in the source code that reside in RAM memory and remain unchanged by the algorithm itself. They can then be calibrated using CANape.

Compared to conventionally powered vehicles, electric vehicles (EVs) have significantly shorter driving ranges due to the low energy density of their batteries. For EVs to experience a successful market launch, it is important to have a charging infrastructure in place that is widely accessible and easy to use. It is equally as important to have a standardized charging process. This article describes Smart Charging and its standardization in the ISO 15118 standard. With Smart Charging, in addition to a power connection, the vehicle also establishes a communication channel with the charging station. Today,Vector is already providing a first implementation based on its MICROSAR IP communication stack.

With the introduction of the new ISO 26262 standard, requirements for safety-related functions are becoming much more challenging than they used to be. At the same time, they are more precisely and clearly defined. Formally validated systems and the re-use of existing solutions do not need to contradict one another here. Generic safety modules in hardware and software can supplement proven components.

FlexRay is either introduced for its deterministic behavior or for its quick data transfer, depending on the application. Currently, its use in safety-related applications only plays a subordinate role. Criteria to be considered in the decision of which operating system to use together with FlexRay, besides deterministic behavior and performance, include memory protection and time monitoring. This article explains what is important in selecting the operating system and presents specific solutions offered by Vector Informatik in the context of AUTOSAR.

In many systems embedded in a technical context it is essential that certain timing conditions are fulfilled. That means that activities can be guaranteed to produce their effects at times that are needed to maintain an orderly processing. In such cases it may be useful to have a means to predict the behaviour of the system before it is executed.
